Seeing the pain and trauma on both sides of a weapon. I was the first responder to a young man getting shot down in the streets of Chicago. I was 20 feet away from walking into a bullet. This piece was written from the perspective of how I would have wanted my story told if I couldn’t tell it today.

How the conditioning I learned impacted the woman I loved. The “talk” about sex and women came from my father saying something along the lines of “wrap it up, son.” End of discussion. So many young men learn about sex and relationships from social conditioning, porn, and media. Not all this input is “bad,” but we may have to reflect on what we learned and carry, and if it brings us to the love we want.
